Shiatsu is a Japanese word that translates to ‘finger pressure.’ Shiatsu is a holistic Japanese acupressure massage that works with the meridian systems to activate the body’s natural ability for healing and self-regulation. It is experienced on either a futon or a low table, with the client remaining fully clothed. Mindful pressure is applied using primarily the thumbs and palms, along with gentle stretching and rotations to release muscular tension and energy blockages, whilst nourishing areas of ‘qi depletion’. Due to the depth of relaxation that is experienced during a treatment, the nervous system can be soothed, nourished and revitalized. Shiatsu can promote feelings of being ‘reconnected’ and ‘grounded’.
